Next I had to make my way over to another terrific workshop: It was a real hair-raising experience! Given by Tonner Staffer Ms. Melanie Keifer, the Hair Workshop was a full house! Lots of collectors were in the house today! Ms. Melanie showed us how to complete 2 different up-dos on our dolls, and gave us loads of great styling tips for future play! Check out the fun we had:
Finally, it was time for dinner! Good thing, because I had really worked up an appetite! Plus, like everyone else, I was really looking forward to the Marilyn Monroe dinner event. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes was kicked off by the welcoming Tonner staff, all done up in black, the ladies in soft pink boas, and the guys in pink ties.
Upon entering the banquet hall, everyone rushed over to the tables to see the centerpiece: a glorious 22” Marilyn Monroe in all her gorgeous blonde glory!
The centerpiece, called Diamonds, has the BRAND NEW first Tonner Marilyn Monroe sculpt EVER!! That’s right, folks: we’re making history here! As you might have guessed, the 22″ Diamonds is wearing a replica of the infamous hot pink dress adorned with a large pink bow with black trim from the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and is, of course, simply dripping in ‘diamonds’! She also dons opera length gloves and open-toed high-heeled mules. She is purely a sight to behold, and you could actually feel all the air being sucked out of the room as people took her in. The head sculpt has the signature open-mouth pout any Marilyn fan has come to know and love, and the hair is spot on! She, of course, is on the American Model body, has blonde rooted saran hair, the Tyler skin tone and painted blue eyes. She is a VERY limited edition of just 100 pieces.
Now, onto the souvenir: Animal Magnetism. This gorgeous 16” version of our beloved Hollywood Starlet wears another stunning costume from How to Marry a Millionaire: a magnificent long sheath with dress drapes on the sides and a tailored 3 quarter sleeve jacket adorned with sassy cuffs. The ensemble is competed with (of course!) jeweled jacket pin, black open-toed pumps and some shiny wrist wear. She also features the brand new premiere Marilyn head sculpt and the BRAND NEW 16” Starlet body (regular Tyler bust, fuller Curvaceous hip), Tyler skin tone, rooted blonde saran hair, and painted blue eyes. She is a small edition size of only 250 pieces.
We had a Marilyn impersonator join us for the evening and she sang!! …to Eric Goodman, Tonner Staffer. He didn’t know this was going to happen. :) Don’t ask, just watch.
The evening’s presentation was, quite simply put, fascinating!! Scott Fortner was our guest of honor and guest speaker, and in case you didn’t know, he’s a Marilyn enthusiast and historian, and is considered THE authority on her. He’s also a collector (so he fits right in!), and has brought some of his collection to showcase as part of the presentation. He is often called in to authenticate Marilyn memorabilia as well as asked to provide commentary on Marilyn topics by worldwide news agencies. He also owns, as part of his collection, her lime green boat neck tee she was often seen wearing when she was not all glam-ified. So, as you can imagine, we all got to know Marilyn quite intimately this evening, and it was beyond special being so close to her. If you haven’t checked out his site, you totally should if you’re a Marilyn fan! http://www.marilynmonroecollection.com/TheCollector.htm

Whew! What a whirlwind of a day! But it hardly felt like work….
