What is Memphis, you ask?  Well, it’s a dynamic Broadway show, one of the 100 longest running shows, in fact!  Straight from the press release, here are some more details:

Memphis features a brand new, Tony winning score with music by Bon Jovi’s founding member and keyboardist David Bryan and lyrics by Bryan and Tony-winner Joe DiPietro, who also pens the musical’s book. Directed by Tony nominee Christopher Ashley and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo, Memphis takes place in the smoky halls and underground clubs of the segregated 50’s, where a young white DJ named Huey Calhoun fell in love with everything he shouldn’t: rock and roll and an electrifying black singer.  Memphis is an original story about the cultural revolution that erupted when his vision met her voice, and the music changed forever.

One of the top 100 longest running Broadway shows of all time, Memphis will play its final performance on Broadway this Sunday, August 5th after 30 previews and 1,166 regular performances at the historic Shubert Theatre.  In celebration, the Memphis dolls will be launched and available for pre-order as of August 2nd for $174.99 each.  Memphis is currently playing to packed houses across the country as the U.S. national tour begins its second year.  To find out where Memphis is playing in a city near you, visit www.MemphistheMusical.com.

This is a milestone for us not only as our first Broadway license, but also as our very first interracial doll couple!

 Memphis Producer Sue Frost says:

“We are thrilled that Huey and Felicia will have a permanent home among the Tonner Doll collection.  Memphis prides itself on seizing opportunities to break new ground in innovative ways and we are so pleased that the show will have its own tangible legacy in the form of these beautiful dolls.”

The Felicia figure will arrive on Tonner’s 16” Tyler Wentworth™ body style in the spice skin tone, and features a brand new head sculpt with rooted dark brown Saran hair, and painted brown eyes.  She will come wearing her beguiling pale gold chiffon dress complete with delicate silver and gold metallic embroidered detailing, gold shoes and jewelry.

Huey will arrive on Tonner’s 17” Matt O’Neill body style in the Tyler skin tone,  and is also a brand new head sculpt with molded hair and painted blue eyes.  Huey’s authentic costume includes the polka-dotted jacket lined in black and white leopard print, black and white checked pants, and hip polka-dotted and striped shirt.  His ensemble is topped off with his signature charcoal gray hat.  Pics of Huey to come!

  1. “This is a milestone for us not only as our first Broadway license, but also as our very first interracial doll couple.”

Perhaps from Tonner, but my CF Tropical Brenda and Russell just celebrated their 7th anniversary together! He’s dressed in “So Cool”, and she wears debut Stella’s outfit. I like it when I get a combination that lasts so long on my display – I know I got it right!

Congrats for your move to the Broadway lights. I love how your lines continue to evolve!

    • Hi Nancy!

Thanks very much for sharing that with us! We wish Brenda and Russell a very happy anniversary, and many more years of bliss together :)
We appreciate your kind words about our first Broadway line! We are really proud of it, and super excited about it, too! Thanks for the comment, Nancy!

  2. Felicia looks WONDERFUL!! Another beautiful and elegant lady of color to add to my collection, which I really appreciate.

    • Hey Milady Blue!

Thanks so much for the kind words of Felicia! We are so excited about this collection, and we’re really pleased with the way Felicia came out. She’s a total knockout (in our humble opinion!). Just wait until you see Huey. He’s super handsome, in a Jude Law sort of way (it’s not a likeness of anyone, and in fact a brand new sculpt, but reminds us of Jude, I guess!), and has an amazing outfit! Thanks for leaving a comment!

  3. Wonderful news! The Felicia sculpt is absolutely gorgeous and the Memphis line combines my two loves: Broadway and Robert Tonner dolls! I’ve seen Memphis on Broadway four times and have over 30 AA Tonner dolls. I’m in heaven!

    • So glad to hear your enthusiasm for this collection and Broadway show! We’re really pleased with the way Felicia came out, for sure! Pics of Huey to come! Thanks for the comment :D
