Design Room Scoop: Joan Crawford

Robert Tonner Kicks Off His Latest Collection inspired by Hollywood Legends

Everyone has been buzzing about Robert’s newest 16” fashion doll, Joan Crawford. We officially released the first images last week and fans are begging for more of one of Hollywood’s greatest treasures.

Robert and Joe have worked closely with Joan Crawford’s family on this extraordinary collection. "I am very pleased to work with The Tonner Doll Company in creating the first ever, authorized Joan Crawford doll collection,” Casey LaLonde, grandson of Ms. Crawford said.  “Joan Crawford fans and doll collectors worldwide will be equally delighted with this high quality, life-like and collectible doll line.  Tonner's attention to detail and features will make this a much sought after collection."

Tonner’s newest 16” starlet will ship later this year and be on the lookout for the already infamous prototype, modeling the “Jungle Red” outfit. Rumor has it, she may make an appearance as a doll sometime soon!!

TONNERDIRECT REPORT: Comic Con International
San Diego Hosts World's Largest Comic Convention

Gamers, and comics, and geeks: OH MY! Gamers, and comics, and geeks: OH MY!!

Comic Con International in sun-shiny San Diego was a hit! More than 124,000 attendees jammed the aisles chasing the have-to-have exclusives, eagerly awaiting the Q&A portions of panels, and fervently comparing costumes!

The Tonner booth was of course the hub of all activity that anyone needed to have. Yeah, you could go to the Summit booth to score some Twilight swag. You could hit up the Sony folks for a demo of the latest titles on PS3. But if you wanted to have fun, really have fun, you came to booth 4148 and hung out with us! Even Samuel L. Jackson gave us a wave as he passed by with his security detail. (Ok, he was more fascinated by the fact that I was sitting on the floor going through drawing tickets, but he still said, “Hey!”)

We arrived with two exclusives this time around to give everyone a chance to go home something rare and exciting. Arkham Asylum Joker and Phantom Zone Supergirl were huge hits with buyers and onlookers alike. The free drawings drew bigger and bigger crowds each time. And there were plenty of cosplayers posing in front of their favorite figure to see how close they came to matching ours.

The show was an incredible success! Regulars and newbies alike were snatching up Lara Croft, adding Superman to their DC Stars collection at home, and doing the math to see what it would take to have a complete Harry Potter set!

Fun was had by all and we are already preparing for Comic Con 2009! I have to get my Starfleet uniform out of the drycleaners for the next one. I’m just sayin’…

UFDC

Tonner Design Director, Joe Petrollese, traveled to Las Vegas for the United Federation of Doll Clubs' National Convention at the Bally's Hotel & Casino.  With him, he took the results of the UFDC-sponsored Design Competition; where one lucky contestant's winning design was adapted and produced for the event souvenir.  The winner, Pat Rooney, won over the judges with her sweeping satin ball gown and oversized bow and sash ('Surprise Engagement' Daphne - LE210 shown top row, far left).  All contestants' dolls were photographed on the runway, and Joe entertained attendees with a slide show showcasing all the designs.  Opening the box was a surprise to all, as no one except the event organizers knew which design won the competition.  We wanted to share the fun and talented entries with you.

Sauder Village

Robert traveled to historic Sauder Village to greet collectors and to present his latest special exclusive 'Strolling Down to Sauder Village' (LE125 - Tess Head Sculpt) - you may recall the prototype head shot was shown in previous enewsletters, but we wanted you to see the final production doll. And don't forget Sauder Village's Exclusive 'Mary Lee' Kripplebush Kid - available now!

Mary Lee - LE150

Sauder Village Exclusive

Little Mary Lee (Kripplebush Kids Sculpt) wears a layered lace-trimmed cotton dress in plaid and floral cotton prints topped with fresh, white embroidered cotton pinafore; includes tights, ankle boots and plaid cotton bonnet with satin ribbon trim. Contact Sauder Village at 800-590-9755 - visit the website - click here.
